Celine has canceled her Spring 2024 menswear show amid tensions in Paris after the killing of a teenager by police sparked riots overnight. WWD writes about it.
“Due to the events of the last few days and to avoid any potential threat to the safety of our guests and our team, we regret to inform you that we have canceled the Celine Homme show, which was supposed to take place at La Gaîté Lyrique. this Sunday, July 2 at 8:30 p.m.,” the fashion house said in a brief statement. It was sent to the guests by email.
The statement also states that “the activities planned for the end of this show, from 9:30 p.m. to 9:00 p.m., in the same place, are also cancelled.” These are the performances planned by Celine’s image director, Hedi Slimane.
Slimane issued a statement in French on his personal social media account: “Hosting a fashion show in Paris while France and its capital are grieving and bruised seems thoughtless and completely inappropriate from my point of view.”
Other fashion events are currently scheduled for Sunday, including shows by Patou and Alaïa, as well as Belgian accessories label Delvaux and Italian fashion label Philosophy di Lorenzo Serafini.
Previously, Celine introduced a new summer capsule collection for tennis. The campaign was filmed in sunny Saint-Tropez, France. We talk about it in more detail here.
