Commemorative coins issued to commemorate the death of John Tolkien in the UK

In the UK, collectible coins dedicated to John RR Tolkien. Its release is timed to coincide with the 50th anniversary of the writer’s death. This was reported by the official website of the Royal Mint.

The coins were minted in three versions. Two of them are silver. Its cost is 77.5 pounds (about 9,200 rubles at current exchange rates). They are published in an edition of 4500 pieces. There are also coins worth 127.5 pounds (15,200 rubles). 2,000 units were manufactured.

The third option is the rarest: only 200 copies. They are made of gold and cost 1,250 pounds (almost 150,000 rubles). All the coins are engraved with a runic drawing and a portrait of Tolkien in profile. And also a phrase from the novel “The Lord of the Rings”: “Not all wanderers are lost.” The inscriptions around the portrait say: “Writer. Poet. Scientist”, the years of the writer’s life are also indicated – 1892-1973.

“JRR Tolkien remains adored by readers to this day. He was not only a gifted writer, but also a skilled poet, a highly respected philologist, and an amateur artist,” writes the Mint.
