Director Denis Villeneuve, who directed the first and second parts of “Dune,” hopes to make another sequel. He dreams of continuing his exploration of the desert planet created by writer Frank Herbert. The cinematographer spoke about this in an interview with Empire Online.
Villeneuve notes that if Warner Bros. and Legendary Entertainment give the green light, we’ll see “Dune-3.” He added that the film adaptation of him will be as close as possible to Frank Herbert’s original idea. “Herbert Dune’s novel Messiah was written in response to a request from readers who saw Paul Atreides as a hero. This is not what the writer wanted. And my adaptation is closer to the idea of him, ”said the director in an interview.
Denis Villeneuve’s first Dune was released in September 2021. It was based on the first part of Frank Herbert’s series of science fiction novels about the sandy planet Arrakis and told about its inhabitants and the fight for an incredibly valuable resource: the melange. The film has grossed more than $402 million worldwide despite being released during the coronavirus lockdown and a simultaneous digital release on HBO Max.
The release of “Dune-2” is scheduled for March 15, 2024. The film will tell about the union of Paul Atreides with the Fremen for the sake of the war against the conspirators who destroyed his family. Timothée Chalamet, Zendaya, Rebecca Ferguson, Javier Bardem, Stellan Skarsgård, Dave Bautista and Josh Brolin return to their roles. Florence Pugh, Léa Seydoux, Christopher Walken, and Austin Butler joined the franchise for the first time.
