“Fernando Botero, artist of our traditions and shortcomings, has died,” Petro wrote on his page on the social network X (formerly Twitter, blocked in the Russian Federation).
According to local media reports, the artist died in Monaco. The cause of death was complications resulting from the disease. It was reported that Botero was hospitalized with pneumonia in recent days. The authorities of the city of Medellín, where the Colombian was born in 1932, decided to declare seven days of mourning.
Botero was one of Colombia’s most famous artists. He created his own unique style, “Boterism”, which tends to depict figures and people in exaggerated volume. His works can be found in many European cities. In the capital of Colombia is the Botero Museum, which exhibits more than 100 works by the master.
