From September 13 to 17, the Central Exhibition Hall “Manege” in St. Petersburg will host the architecture festival “Architecton” for the first time. The event will bring together different generations of architects in a forum, award, exhibition and public art program.
The name of the festival uses a term coined and introduced by Kazimir Malevich in 1923. Architects are Suprematist architectural models of colliding geometric shapes. They had no utilitarian meaning and were part of the new “suprematist order” which, according to Malevich, would become the basis of the architecture of the future.
The forum will become a platform for dialogue between the participants in the modern architectural processes of the city: professional schools, universities and renowned offices. The exhibition, in turn, visualizes the continuity of generations.
An important event of the festival will be the award ceremony “Architecton”. Not only will it reward the best architectural creations created in the last four years, but it will also draw the best examples of modern architecture to the attention of industry leaders. Architects and architectural workshops, either registered in St. Petersburg and the Leningrad region, or having completed a project or construction in this territory, can participate in the competition. The festival was organized by the St. Petersburg Union of Architects under the leadership of the Honored Architect of the Russian Federation Vladimir Grigoriev. The Architecton team included curators Georgy Snezhkin and Liza Savina, as well as architects Sergey Padalko and Anton Golovin.
