SKA St. Petersburg announced the signing of a two-year contract with forward Alex Galchenyuk, who previously played in the National Hockey League.
“We are very happy to inform everyone: we have signed a two-year agreement with Alex Galchenyuk. We are constantly trying to strengthen our team, to take only the best players who fit into our system,” said the coach of the St. Team of Saint Petersburg Roman Rotenberg.
Galchenyuk, 29, was selected third in the 2012 Rookie Draft. In the NHL he played for Montreal, Arizona, Pittsburgh, Minnesota, Ottawa, Toronto and Colorado. In total, over 11 seasons in the National Hockey League, he played 692 games and scored 371 (151 + 220) points in them.
He also played in the AHL for the Toronto Marlies and the Colorado Eagles. He scored 53 (18 + 35) points in 55 games.
This summer, Galchenyuk, the son of the famous Soviet and Belarusian hockey player Alexander Galchenyuk, signed a contract with Arizona. But on July 14 he was arrested, the player was charged with assault on private property, disorderly conduct, resisting arrest, threats and intimidation. The court later dropped almost all charges, and Galchenyuk was sentenced to 30 days in prison.
