According to preliminary data, plane number one was advancing along the planned route and approximately a minute and a half before the disaster it came into contact with two other helicopters of the presidential delegation.
“The president’s helicopter caught fire after hitting a hill,” the General Staff explained. At the same time, the department stressed that experts did not find traces of bullets on the hull of the plane.
The General Staff explained that the search for the crashed plane was prolonged due to fog, cold and difficult terrain conditions. The department added that nothing suspicious was observed in conversations between dispatchers and the helicopter crew.
The plane crash occurred on May 19 in the mountains of northwestern Iran. Eight people were on board, including the president himself and the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Hossein Amir Abdollahian.
Ebrahim Raisi was buried today in his hometown of Mashhad in front of a large crowd of mourners.
