Guns N’ Roses and Morten Harket: New York and London Fashion Week playlist

Date: September 19, 2024 Time: 07:14:24

We look forward to each Fashion Week to see new collections from our favorite brands, replenish our style hacks with fresh ideas, and of course, add songs from both established and emerging artists to the seasonal playlist. The lineup of shows in New York and London included “Can’t Take My Eyes Off You,” “November Rain,” “Gotta Move,” and more.

Ralph Lauren: Christopher Cross – Navigation

In the setting of a horse farm in Bridgehampton, which included vintage cars, the models performed the classic California soft rock song, “Sailing” by Christopher Cross. It was with this song that the singer received the coveted Grammy Awards in the categories “Record of the Year”, “Song of the Year” and “Arrangement of the Year”. The show was accompanied by the American singer Bob Seger and his song (according to The Mercury News, the best single about love) “You’ll Accomp’ny Me”, as well as “Boys of Summer” by the young artist from Los Angeles Erin O’Neill.

Khaite: Guns N’ Roses – November Rain

Honoring tradition was Katherine Holstein, who displayed Khaite’s usual blend of femininity and masculinity on the catwalk, choosing Guns N’ Roses’ “November Rain” as the soundtrack. Guitarist Saul Hudson (better known in professional circles as Slash) claims that the group recorded an 18-minute version in 1986, and the final 4-minute version in 1992. The track then peaked at number three on the US Billboard Hot 100 chart and became the longest track ever to be in the top ten at the time of its release.

Carolina Herrera: Janet Jackson – All For You

Carolina Herrera’s spring-summer 2024 show was accompanied by Janet Jackson’s seventh studio album, with which the singer marked her return to dance-pop. Billboard, in turn, ranked the album 141st among the 200 best albums of the decade. The eponymous single (and, of course, before becoming the soundtrack to the collection) remained at the top of all the charts for more than a month, earning the performer the title of “Queen of the Radio” and, of course, a Grammy in the “Best Dance Recording” category. Another single from the show is “All Nite (Don’t Stop)”, which is already from the singer’s eighth album.

Coach: Neu! -Hero

The American label opened the new season with classics of German krautrock – the tracklist of the band Neu!. During its active career (from 1971 to 1975), it did not achieve much commercial success, but after a while it was recognized as the founder of experimental and psychedelic music of the late sixties. Its name (translated from German as “New!”), according to the founder and composer Klaus Dinger himself, refers to the most popular word in the advertising business at that time. The first album of the same name sold only 30,000 copies, but David Bowie and Thom Yorke soon recognized it as a musical masterpiece.

Michael Kors: The Hollywood Studio Symphony – The Plume’s name is Casanova!

Inspired by a noir rendition of The Talented Mr. Ripley, Michael Kors invited sound designer and DJ Sebastian Perrin to select compositions for the teasers and runway show of the spring-summer collection. On the same black-and-white stage, the creative director told the story of a 35-year collaboration with Italian designers – another connection to the reference book set on the Mediterranean coast. The models stepped out to “The Plume’s Nom Is Casanova!” by the Hollywood Symphony Orchestra, which was previously responsible for the music for “Pirates of the Caribbean,” “Spider-Man 2” and “Jurassic Park 3.”

Nensi Dojaka: Barbra Streisand – I Gotta Move

The soundtrack to the return of Nancy Dojaki’s eponymous label to London Fashion Week was a single by Barbra Streisand. We hope that the accompaniment will be an excellent affirmation for a successful comeback, because the author of the song to this day (her career began in the 1960s) is considered one of the best-sellers in the industry: Barbra’s record sales exceed 150 million worldwide.

JW Anderson: Sophie Powers and Grimes – Obsessed

Jonathan Anderson does not change and continues to support young artists, for example, young Sophia Powers, who creates in an alternative genre and is actively gaining new audiences. The creative designer and performer duo chose the recently released remix “Obsessed (Grimes DJ Edit)” – the singer recorded it together with Canadian singer Grimes and performed it with great success at Coachella this year. We definitely recommend listening to it and keeping our fingers crossed for the singers.

Simone Rocha: Morten Harket – I can’t take my eyes off you

Simone Rocha showed a new flirtatious core for the spring-summer season in “Can’t Take My Eyes Off You”. The song was first written and performed by Frank Valley in 1967. For the musician, this immediately became a calling card and earned him second place on the Billboard Hot 100, receiving the status of a “gold single”. Later, the song was recorded with other arrangements; on the Simone Rocha show, for example, they heard a version by Morten Harket. Accompanying the song with a declaration of love was the equally romantic “La Strada” from the 1954 film “The Road” by Federico Fellini.
