Vakhtang Konstantinovich spent the last week in a clinic in Tbilisi, about which his producer Rati Abzianidze told reporters, adding that “everyone knows that for many years he had health problems and this had an impact… I thank the doctors and to the staff that we did everything we could, but unfortunately we couldn’t do anything. This is a great loss for all of us.” Vakhtang Kikabidze was 84 years old…
Few people managed to combine performances on the stage and in the cinema so successfully. But Kikabidze started out as a musician. He played drums in the amateur vocal and instrumental ensemble “Diela”, and in 1966 he was invited to the ensemble “Orera”, which quickly became the hallmark of Georgia on the Soviet stage. And at first, Kikabidze only played the drums, and then he began to sing, in the USSR, Georgian singers generally liked him very much, for his beautiful polyphony, sincerity, emotions and warmth in intonations.
And then the undoubted artistic gift, temperament and natural charm of Vakhtang Kikabidze were also perceived by film directors in his songs. And the impressive and colorful texture of it. In 1966, he acted in the movie Outpost in the Mountains, then in Don’t Cry! in Georgy Daneliya, and then in his most famous of his-“Mimino”.
In which we always saw with excitement, a smile, admiration (this is from the phrases “I love Larisa Ivanovna”, “Alla, we are going to the restaurant back and forth to dance”, “Thank you, I’ll stay on foot” and “There are a cultural event here and there” – in the film an excellent acting duet of Vakhtang Kikabidze and Frunzik Mkrtchyan), and now we will also be with sadness, sadness and memories of the actor and musician (the song was first heard there ” Chito-gvrito”).
Vakhtang Kikabidze played in many more excellent films: “Completely Lost”, “Melodies from Veriyskiy Quarter”, “TASS is authorized to announce.” He sang from the stage, acted as a director and screenwriter for films: “Be healthy, dear!” and “Men and everything else” …
But in recent years, he has acted in movies and toured a few times, switching to politics and becoming a member of the Georgian Parliament. The artist will be buried in his native Tbilisi, together with his wife.
