Let me remind you that the heating season begins in the capital when the average daily air temperature drops to +8 degrees and remains at this level for at least five days. Social institutions can start the heating season earlier by submitting the corresponding application.
According to the forecasts of meteorologists, the weather this autumn can please Muscovites. For example, on September 1 they promise the residents of the capital +27 degrees, and there, as you can see, the warm “Indian summer” will come on time. But, after all, it is calmer when the city is prepared for any weather. According to Moscow Deputy Mayor Pyotr Biryukov, preparations for the heating season began in mid-May. During the three summer months, the utilities prepared more than 8.7 thousand kilometers of main networks and 8.4 thousand kilometers of distribution networks, which supply heat to 74 thousand buildings, including 34 thousand residential buildings.

“The main task of preventive work is to identify potentially unreliable sections of heating networks in advance and quickly restore them in order to ensure uninterrupted heat supply to consumers during the season,” explained Petr Biryukov. The press service of the Moscow United Power Company “RG” noted that preventive work on heating networks is familiar to all Muscovites, since at this time the supply of hot water in houses is cut off. At this time, a greater load is applied to the heating network – the pressure is higher than the working one.
Up to a maximum of 130 degrees, the temperature of the process water in the pipes also increases. If the section of pipe passed the test, continue with the next section. Several thousand potentially unreliable sites are identified in this way. Once identified, defects are removed. The greatest attention is paid to heating networks, the life of which is coming to an end. A more accurate assessment of the condition of the pipelines helps to get a special robot “Rotoscan”.
This device, using ultrasound, performs continuous scans and diagnoses of the metal in the pipe. Measure pipe thickness, check for corrosion, microcracks and more. This allows you to identify hidden defects that have not yet made themselves felt during other tests. And thus prevent possible accidents during the heating season.
As observed in the urban economy as a whole, in the last 10 years in the capital during the autumn-winter period there has not been a single serious accident.
By the way, last year the heating season in Moscow began early: on September 9 they began to turn on heating in social institutions, and on September 18 heat was already supplied to all houses in the capital.
