The Aquat 100 drone was developed specifically for MASS. The robot can submerge to a depth of 100 meters in water of any temperature and operate at a depth of up to four hours without changing the battery. While a diver can only stay underwater for 40 minutes, reports the Novosibirsk City Hall.
“With it we plan to search for drowned people, equipment and scan the bottom of the beaches,” said MASS deputy director Alexei Shilov.
The drone is equipped with a broadband echo sounder, so it “sees” well even in murky water. The device has a built-in camera that will transmit the image to the operator on a laptop. The drone will even be able to recover the body of a drowned person using a special “claw”, but, nevertheless, rescuers have established that after the discovery of the body, a diver will continue to participate in the evacuation.
