The leaders of the rating are Moscow, St. Petersburg and the Novosibirsk region, where more than half of all people employed in the economy work in the SME sector. The lowest indicators are in Chukotka, Karachay-Cherkessia and Ingushetia, but the authors of the rating note that most of the regions that are at the bottom of the RIA Novosti rating show positive dynamics in terms of growth in the number of workers. employees in small and medium-sized businesses.

According to experts, the share of small and medium-sized businesses in the country’s GDP today is about 20%, and in total about 30 million people are involved in this type of business (almost 41% of the total number of employees ). And this figure is increasing: throughout the year (compared to July 2022), the number of Russians in this business sector increased by 9.6%, only in the Chukotka Autonomous Okrug there was a decrease of 1% . At the same time, Chechnya, Kalmykia, Dagestan, Ingushetia, North Ossetia and Kabardino-Balkaria showed good growth rates: there the number of workers in the SME sector increased by almost a third during the year.

“The rating is almost traditional, there are no significant rebounds here,” Georgiy Ostapkovich, director of the Market Research Center at the Higher School of Economics, told KP. – Much depends, of course, on the specifics of regional economic development: what programs and incentives they have for small and medium-sized businesses: in the leading regions, this work is well done and there is adequate infrastructure. The profitability of the region has an indirect meaning, it is not the main factor. In general, the increase in people employed in small and medium-sized businesses is a positive factor, especially for those regions that are left out of the ranking. In these regions, as a rule, there is high unemployment, so the emergence of small businesses can only be welcomed, because in this case the increase in the share of SMEs is not only a contribution to the economy, but also a solution. to the problem of employment and increasing the income of the population.
