The police assume that the bird of prey caught the fish and dropped it on top of the transformer. Sayreville is located about 50 kilometers south of New York, on Raritan Bay and the Raritan River.
“Our hypothesis is that the bird dropped the prey,” Sayreville Police Department Lt. James Novak told local news outlet NJ Advance Media. “It just landed perfectly and destroyed the transformer.” The bird that dropped its prey from its feet is supposedly the osprey, also known as the “sea hawk.”
A spokesperson for the power company told Fox News Digital on Wednesday that the outage affected “2,100 customers for approximately 2 hours.” He confirmed that a fish had fallen on the transformer ”.
According to several energy company blog posts, interference from animals can often cause power outages. In the US, raccoons and squirrels often gnaw through insulation or damage other infrastructure.
