Income 2023: the notices that the Treasury will send to declare the money earned in online gambling

Date: July 27, 2024 Time: 09:56:17

The Income 2024 campaign has been underway for hours and there are already numerous taxpayers who have downloaded the draft and presented it. Experts always advise checking everything carefully. This year, in addition, we must be especially careful with the money earned in online gambling bets. During the presentation of the 2023 Income Tax, the Tax Agency has confirmed the sending of 164,000 notices to players who have won prizes during the year 2023.

This measure aims to remind these players that they must declare their earnings in the income campaign that begins this Wednesday, according to what was expressed by the General Director of the Tax Agency, Soledad Fernández Doctor.

These notices, which originate from data collected by the General Directorate of Gambling Regulation, remind online game prize players that the Tax Agency is aware of their successes and that they must be declared. In the event of inconsistencies, such as identity theft, the respective warning letters will include instructions to follow the appropriate protocol.

The Treasury also monitors virtual currencies

In addition to these 164,000 notices, the Tax Agency increases its volume of notifications in other sectors. Nearly 948,000 notices related to virtual currencies are expected, an increase compared to 328,000 last year. Likewise, 895,000 notifications will be sent about rentals obtained in other countries and 866,000 notices for property rentals, numbers that contrast with the 807,000 and 661,000 respectively in 2022.

On the legitimacy of the notices

The Tax Agency ensures that sending these notices does not imply the detection of a tax crime, but rather they function as a reminder of the possible income that must be declared. This information is collected from various sources, such as real estate portals or foreign tax administrations.

One step further: post-presentation notices

This income campaign brings a novelty: the issuance of post-filing notices to those taxpayers who have made modifications to their draft within the voluntary period. The Tax Agency expects to issue around 100,000 of these communications, so that taxpayers can correct possible errors or omissions.

The Renta Web tool is simplified

In this new campaign, the Renta Web program makes it easier to make rectifications or complementary declarations. With this simplification, when modifying the corresponding imports, the rest of the calculations are carried out automatically, ideal for taxpayers who wish to correct discrepancies in their declarations.
