An important nod to the Italian families of the right-wing government of the Italian Prime Minister, Giorgia Meloni. As of next July 18, you will obtain a prepaid card, for an amount of 382.50 euros, for low-income families so that they can purchase basic food. This is one of the measures included in the Budget Law and seeks to alleviate the current high inflation. For this, the Meloni executive estimates a disbursement of 500 million euros and up to 1.4 million families benefited.
The card, which has been baptized under the name “Dedicated to you”, will be distributed by the Post Office after the presentation of the documentation found to the families that are entitled. That is, those that do not exceed 15,000 euros in the Isee. This is the Italian namesake of the Spanish Multiple Effects Public Income Indicator (IPREM). Both indices serve as a reference for the granting or not of social assistance. Specifically, the Isee in Italy is an instrument that is also used to indicate the economic situation and takes into account income and assets, among other factors, and they do not receive other social assistance.
The aid will reach Italian families in a context of disinflation, which in June marked a rate of 6.5% year-on-year while it had been 7.6% the previous month, continuing its decline, especially as the price of energy fell not regulated, according to the National Institute of Statistics (Istat).
Meloni has defended in a video that “we present an initiative that particularly concerns the 1,300,000 families who have the greatest difficulties in acquiring basic necessities, the famous shopping cart. We have invested 500 million euros to help these families” .
For his part, the Minister of Economy, Giancarlo Giorgietti, stated that “the tools to combat inflation are also other and there is not only monetary policy”. Giorgietti has added that “inflation has a greater impact on less favored families” and for this reason “the Government has decided to intervene in the two energy factors and food products”.
The measure has received the applause of the largest agricultural association in the country, Coldiretti. “We are experiencing the highest food inflation in 40 years and in fact families have been forced to reduce the amount of food purchased by 4.7% with direct effects on national agri-food production,” they observed.
