Kozmino oil port released 10,000 scallops into Nakhodka Bay – Rossiyskaya Gazeta

Date: July 6, 2024 Time: 04:04:17

The event took place under the supervision of representatives of the territorial department of Rosrybolovstvo of Primorsky, the department of ecology and environmental management of the administration of the Nakhodka urban district.

The valuable mollusk, with an average weight of 3-4.6 grams, was released into its natural habitat. Specialists used juveniles grown at the mariculture site of Transneft – LLC Port Kozmino. In total, since 2016, as part of environmental activities at its own expense, the Kozmino oil port has released more than 85 thousand mollusks into the Nakhodka Bay.

The company’s environmentalists note that the area in the Cape Krylov area has good water exchange, as well as soil and depth suitable for the life of scallops. Comfortable living conditions allow the mollusk to participate in the replenishment of natural populations in the future.

The environmental event was organized in accordance with the program for the conservation of biological diversity in the areas where Transneft PJSC facilities are present.

Similar work was carried out at the mariculture site of the Kozmino oil port. At the bottom of the sea garden, port specialists released a record volume of scallops in the last five years: more than 184 thousand individuals of the 2023 generation, raised in cages.

“Last year, a large number of scallops settled in the collectors, they overwintered well, so today we released high-quality viable juveniles to the bottom of Kozmina Bay,” said Elena Kostina, head of the hydrobiotechnical structures section of the port of Transneft Kozmino LLC.

The company reproduces biological resources within the framework of comprehensive environmental monitoring of the environment. With the help of marine organisms, environmentalists receive information about the state of the water body where the port’s production facilities are located. The sustainable operation of the mariculture site indicates a favorable long-term environmental situation in the waters of Kozmina Bay.
