Laima Vaikule fought to the core with Igor Krutoy eight years ago. It happened in 2015, when the singer celebrated her Rendezvous festival in Jurmala. The composer did not like that his friend put the dates of the “New Wave” on it.
“Igor was jealous at first. It seemed to him that this was some kind of betrayal. I told him that I was a patriot of my country. I don’t want Jurmala to yearn for the New Wave,” Laima Vaikule said.
She justified her act this way: “I’m credited with creating Rendezvous instead of New Wave. There’s no connection. New Wave is a competition, and we have a festival. They’re different things. It’s just that the city offered me a festival, so I created it.”
Remember that New Wave moved from Jurmala to Sochi in 2014. In 2015, the composer wanted to return the contest to Jurmala. The problem seemed to be solved. However, at the same time, the singer decided to hold her own festival on the Riga coast.
Igor Krutoy spoke about the appearance of Vaikula’s “Rendezvous”: “At the time when the “New Wave” was supposed to take place, Laima makes her own “Rendezvous” festival, which shows that our competition in Jurmala is not needed. If she thinks that this is decent and decent, God is her judge.
Krutoy stressed that he did not speak publicly about this situation anywhere until Lyme first spoke out. “Everyone lives according to her own conscience. After that, I had a face-to-face conversation with her,” the composer said.
