Mercadona has announced a reorganization of its purchasing department, which will be structured into two general directorates. These departments will be in charge of continuing to manage business relationships with inter-suppliers and specialist suppliers.
One of the departments will be in charge of general purchases and dry prescription, while the other will focus on specialized purchases of seafood, fruit, vegetables, oven and ready to eat. The first will be led by Paco Espert, who until now was responsible for dry prescription, and Rafa Berrocal will assume the second general direction, after having been managing the purchases of seafood, fruit, vegetables and fresh bread.
The company has explained that this change in structure is aimed at strengthening relationships with Mercadona suppliers, in order to establish a competitive advantage thanks to specialization, unity of action and collaboration between leadership.

To this end, the company has explained that since 2018 it has made a “significant” investment effort in the creation and training of a team made up of 1,200 people between purchasing and prescription.
