“On the day of the feast of the Transfiguration of the Lord, His Beatitude Metropolitan Onuphry of Kiev and All Ukraine officiated the Divine Liturgy in the Holy Dormition Kiev-Pechersk Lavra,” the Ukrainian Orthodox Church said.
Metropolitan Onufry addressed the faithful with a sermon in which he explained the meaning of the Transfiguration of the Lord on Mount Tabor.
The situation around the kyiv-Pechersk Lavra remains tense. The monks of the canonical church are under threat of eviction. Since August 11, the Museum-Reserve has closed for visitors the entrance to the Lower Lavra, where the main buildings of the monastery are located.
The work of the inventory commission is accompanied by the police. Pilgrims are blocked in hotels, they are not allowed to pass water and food. On August 18, the Ministry of Culture of Ukraine prohibited students and staff of the Kyiv Theological Academy and Seminary from being on the territory of the Lavra.
