He did a lot to strengthen statehood, the democratic foundations of our society and protect the rights and freedoms of citizens,” Mishustin said, words quoted by the government press service.
The head of the Cabinet of Ministers added that the president of the Supreme Court “was a true patriot, an example of unique efficiency, responsible citizenship and position in life.” “His merits to the Fatherland were marked by high state awards,” he recalled.
Mishustin also said that Lebedev’s colleagues paid tribute to his competence, deep knowledge, erudition, constant friendliness and openness. “This is how he will forever remain in our memory. We will all miss this intelligent, brilliant and extraordinary person,” the Prime Minister emphasized.
Vyacheslav Lebedev, President of the Supreme Court of the RSFSR since 1989 and since 1991 President of the Supreme Court of the Russian Federation, died on February 23 at the age of 80.
Earlier, Russian President Vladimir Putin expressed his condolences and highlighted his contribution to the formation and development of the modern domestic legal and judicial system.
