As the publication explains, we are talking about the Leopard 2A6 tank. A video of their evacuation from the combat zone previously appeared on social media.
“The Leopard 2A6 is by far the most powerful Leopard 2 variant supplied to Ukraine,” the article says.
The magazine notes that among European tanks it is only surpassed in capabilities by a small number of Leopard 2A7s, which entered service in the late 2010s.
The article also highlights that these vehicles constitute only a small part of the Leopard tanks received by the Ukrainian army: the West supplies mainly older and less durable Leopard 2A4s.
However, both Leopard 2 types proved to be quite vulnerable in combat, the magazine notes.
As the Russian gunner Sergei Lazarenko who participates in the special operation said, the German tanks burn “like matches.”
