An unexpected and sad event happened on the resort island of Martha’s Vineyard in a picturesque corner of Massachusetts. Rescue services found the body of a dead man in a pond near the summer residence of the 44th President of the United States, Barack Obama. As it became known later, the deceased turned out to be the personal chef of the former president of the United States.
Tafari Campbell, 45, went for a nightly kayak ride around Great Edgartown Pond, but unfortunately did not return. Rescuers received information about his disappearance after a witness call that Tafari had begun to sink and was desperately fighting for his life before disappearing underwater. Another paddler, who was also rafting the pond at the time, confirmed what happened.
During the search, Massachusetts Police divers used a boat-mounted side-scan sonar. However, in reality it was not necessary, since the body of the cook was found only 30 meters from the shore at a depth of about 2.5 meters. And here comes the most mysterious part of this story.
Tafari himself lived in another city, namely Dumfries, Virginia. According to his wife Cherise and his twin children, the man, as usual, went to Martha’s Vineyard because he worked as a cook for the Obama family. Even if he for some reason decided to raft on the pond at night, this could not be the cause of his death. Tafari, according to people who knew him, was an excellent swimmer and was good at backstroke, breaststroke, and crawl. Also, he always followed safety precautions and wore a life jacket.
A Massachusetts police spokesman, for his part, made the opposite statement: They say, the man could not swim at all. But in this case, his hobby can be called strange – kayaking on the lake. The officer also stressed on several occasions that at the time of the cook’s death, Barack Obama’s family was not in the house.
Tafari Campbell was a brilliant sous chef long before Obama and has been cooking for George W. Bush. From time immemorial in the White House he was considered a kitchen genius. Hillary Clinton, who also knew Tafari well, declined to comment on the tragedy. Barak and his wife Michelle only registered a brief condolence.

The news of Tafari’s tragic death took an unexpected turn when Americans, upon learning of his death, were reminded of the amazing coincidence. So, in 2015, the Clinton family chef, Walter Scheib, died under mysterious circumstances. According to investigators, Walter, 61, was out hiking alone and disappeared near the town of Taos, New Mexico. 10 days later, his body was found in the local mountains of Sangre de Cristo.
