According to the press service of the Belarusian National Olympic Committee, Alekhin died at the age of 68.
“The National Olympic Committee of the Republic of Belarus expresses its sincere condolences to the family and friends of Nikolai Alekhin,” the message reads.
Alekhin as a member of the USSR national team in 1980 at the Moscow Olympics became the winner of the Games in the team competitions of saber fencers. He also became world champion and runner-up in this type of competition.
