Paul Reubens, best known for his role as Pee-wee Herman, has died at the age of 70. This was reported on the official page of his cult character on social networks.
The cause of death was cancer. With him, the actor struggled for many years “with characteristic tenacity and ingenuity,” Rubens’ representatives said. The actor’s relatives noted that the character of Pee-wee Herman “had admired generations of children and adults with his positivity, quirks, and belief in the importance of kindness.” They called Rubens “a gifted and prolific talent.”
“He will forever remain in the pantheon of comedy and in our hearts as a valued friend and a person of wonderful character and generosity of spirit,” said the message, which was supplemented by two Rubens quotes.
In one, the actor’s representatives conveyed their request for support to organizations that deal with the problems of patients with cancer, dementia and Alzheimer’s disease. In another, Rubens apologizes to fans: “Please accept my apologies for not speaking publicly about what you’ve been going through for the past six years. I have always felt great love and respect from my friends, fans and supporters.”
Paul Reubens was born on August 27, 1952 in upstate New York. As a child, he moved with his parents to Florida, where he began acting in the school theater. In the 70s, the actor began to appear on the professional stage.
