The President of the Government, Pedro Sánchez, referred this Friday to the purchase of part of Telefónica by the Saudi company STC in a meeting with the business sector at the CEOE headquarters. The Chief Executive has defended that the interest of large foreign investors in Spanish companies is a positive sign, since it indicates that “the country is moving in the right direction.” Furthermore, he has reiterated that the Council of Ministers has “the necessary instruments to protect national sovereignty” and carefully analyzes investment, since the limit for foreign investment is the clash with national interests.
The general secretary of the PSOE has taken advantage of his first intervention after being infected with coronavirus and since Puigdemont made public his conditions to support a possible investiture to stage his closeness with businessmen. The president of the employers’ association, Antonio Garamendi, and Sánchez gave a warm greeting upon their arrival at the meeting, in which they exchanged laughter and touches on the back, after a year full of disagreements in which the CEOE has distanced itself from the Government position in almost all negotiations.
