Sobyanin opened the 8th modern station on MCD-1 – Rossiyskaya Gazeta

Date: July 27, 2024 Time: 06:28:03

On a single circuit with the metro station “Timiryazevskaya”, and not at a distance of several hundred meters, as it was before, there are lockers, toilets, a convenient navigation system … And all this in a place where many still remember the chaotically scattered gigantic market!

“It turned out to be such a cool city station, I think they liked it,” Moscow Mayor Sergei Sobyanin said, addressing Muscovites who came to see the changes under the windows of their homes. “Thanks to the railway workers, this is our joint project.” He recalled that in order not to deprive Muscovites of the opportunity to travel by train during construction, the work was carried out without stopping traffic, for this purpose a temporary infrastructure was created.

According to Sobyanin, the reconstruction of the station will make trips to MCD-1 faster and more convenient for residents north of the capital. And in fact, they will now need only a couple of minutes to transfer from the train to the subway, and you need to go along a warm lobby, and not through frost in winter.

More than 270,000 Muscovites per day use the first railway diameter, which became the city’s mode of public transport in Moscow in 2019. And by 2030, according to the Department of Transportation, passenger traffic to Timiryazevsky will only double, from 14.2 to 29.4 thousand people per day. But at the new station, the capacity reserve has been further created and the city authorities are confident that the renovated station will operate stably for many decades.

The station in Timiryazevskaya has already become the eighth in a row in the first diameter of the rebuilt and operating according to Moscow’s new transport standard. The city is doing the same work together with Russian Railways and on MCD-2, which has also been operating since 2019. In the near future, it is planned to launch two more diameters: MCD-3 and 4. Another 14 railway stations have been rebuilt along its routes. The demand for diameters of Moscow is evidenced by the following figure: they are now used every day by 620 thousand residents of the capital and the Moscow region.

The new stations in diameters solve another major problem of the capital, in many places cut by rails. During its construction, everywhere, as well as at the Timiryazevskaya station, safe and convenient pedestrian underpasses are necessarily provided through the main highways. “I like escalators better,” Alexander Lazorev, a resident of Vuchetich Street, shared with the RG correspondent. “On the way to our clinic on Yablochkova Street, it was so difficult for me to climb this bridge…”

The neighboring road network is also being upgraded and the surrounding area is being improved. In it, well lit, with cozy squares, it is not scary to walk even late at night.
