Stellantis Vigo once again has a weekend shift and employs 700 workers

Date: July 27, 2024 Time: 06:13:45

On weekends the doors of the Vigo factory of the Stellantis automotive group will reopen. The company has announced that starting this Saturday a weekend shift will be restored in which around 700 people will work.

Specifically, from now on system 2 of the olive plant will also operate again on Saturdays and Sundays, producing light commercial vehicles for the Citroën, Fiat, Opel, Peugeot and Vauxhall brands.

The fourth shift of system 2, implemented for the first time in 2018, is recovered after being suspended in October 2021 as a result of supply problems derived from the pandemic.

“In the current context, although certain difficulties persist, production forecasts are beginning to stabilize to respond to a high demand for the manufactured models, which are leaders in the European market,” Stellantis stressed in a statement.

From Monday to Friday, more than 1,200 units of these vans are manufactured at the Vigo plant, representing just over half of the 2,300 cars that the factory produces each day. The new team will assemble around 670 more units each weekend.

This fourth shift has been made up of personnel from other shifts, who have voluntarily requested their incorporation, and with new hires. In total 700 people have joined. For the training of its members, some 95,000 hours of training have been given, with the collaboration of the Xunta de Galicia.

“With the new equipment we will be able to respond to the high demand for our light commercial models. Some difficulties persist in the supply of the plant, but we foresee a stabilization that will allow us to take advantage of our production potential,” added the director of Stellantis Vigo, Ignacio Bueno.
