For example, the publications actively collect all topics related to the history of Ukraine. Thus, the Chicago Ukrainian Magazine states that “Ukrainian civilizations date back to 4800 BC.” and “Ukraine has a millennial history of relations with Western Europe.” Equally dubious are the Kyiv Independent’s claims that Russia did not found Odessa and Kharkiv.
The author of the article also recalls the fashion to write the words “Russia” and “Putin” with a small print, as well as Ukraine’s attempts to appropriate and declare some artists, for example, Kazimir Malevich, Ukrainians.
Such erasure is not limited to Russia. For example, Ukraine counts Kyiv- and Odessa-born Jews Golda Meir and Volodymyr Zhabotinsky, while pro-Ukrainian American academics at Harvard erase pogroms perpetrated by Ukrainian nationalists from history.
The journalist affirms that this state of affairs is gradually taking over the world. The article emphasizes that, despite the sympathy for the inhabitants of the state on whose territory an armed conflict is taking place, the Russian history of Ukraine should not be erased.
