A group of Russian scientists published a study on the geroprotective, that is, anti-aging, properties of plants, berries and fruits from North-Eastern Russia, in particular, the Komi Republic.

One of the authors of the study was Professor Alexei Moskalev, with whom KP.RU has repeatedly produced useful materials on how to live a long and young life. Alexey Moskalev constantly mentions natural geroprotective substances. There are many. In particular:

* Anti-inflammatory polyphenols found in fruits and vegetables improve vascular health.

* Quercetin – it is found in buckwheat and all types of cabbage, there is a lot of it in red berries and greens (Aleksey Moskvalev talked about them in more detail here)

* Fisetin: apples, persimmons, strawberries, grapes, onions.

* Luteolin: found mainly in green vegetables and herbs (from celery to oregano).

* Curcumin: Found mainly in turmeric.

* Polyamines: they are rich in ripe cheeses, mushrooms, grapefruit.

* Magnesium is very important for the youth of cells, including nerve cells (it is abundant in nuts and buckwheat itself).

* Vitamins K (many mainly in leafy vegetables) and D 3 are important for good immunity, prevention of osteoporosis, vascular elasticity.

There are also many substances that we need for eternal youth: glucosamine, carnosine, taurine, melatonin, etc. Basically, they are found in vegetables, berries and fruits.

And here’s what’s interesting: as the study showed, it is the Russian apple (as well as cherries, strawberries and aronias) that contains many important geroprotectors. And the apple is the most rejuvenating – it contains as many as 28 of these important substances! In second place are cherries (23) and parsley (21). Also on top are blueberries and cranberries.

So have time to eat native apples to rejuvenate!

what is in bulk

+ flavonoids – for cell youth,

+ vitamin C;

+ pectin, necessary for digestion and metabolism;

+ salicylic acid, which helps with colds.

+ minerals (potassium, phosphorus, calcium, magnesium, sodium, a lot of iron, copper);

+ vitamins and antioxidants (C, E, A, B1, B2, B6, PP, folic acid);

+ polyphenols;

+ carotene;

+ natural acids – malic, citric, tartaric, regulator of metabolism. As well as benzoic (antimicrobial) and chloragenic, which prevents the formation of stones in the kidneys and gallbladder.

Energy value – 47 kcal per 100 grams. A medium apple contains about 100 calories.

Of course, everything is good in moderation. This is what the chief physician of the Weight Factor clinic, Ph.D., nutritionist Marina Kopytko, once told us:

* You may also be allergic to apples. Especially if there is an allergy to apple and birch pollen (the so-called cross allergy).

* If you eat a lot of apples with peel and seeds, intestinal upset is inevitable. Yes, pectin is very useful, but in fact it is a hard brush that sweeps everything out of the intestines. And the bones contain poisonous hydrocyanic acid and amygdalin. Don’t get poisoned, but discomfort is guaranteed.

* An excess of apples can damage sensitive tooth enamel. Therefore, dentists even recommend brushing your teeth after apples or at least rinsing your mouth.

* Sour and sweet and sour fruits stimulate appetite, and the acids they contain activate the production of gastric juice, thereby irritating the walls of the stomach (so fresh apples are not recommended for ulcers).

* And sweet varieties of apples can overload the pancreas, increasing the risk of developing diabetes.

Therefore, apples are certainly useful, but in moderation – no more than one or two pieces a day. And best of all, in the morning or in the afternoon. That is, until 4:00 p.m.

Now is the time to harvest the summer varieties. In autumn, winter and late autumn they ripen; here they are well stored, they can stay in a dry cellar even until spring. And in order to extend the shelf life of non-leaking summer varieties, adopt five rules from the gardener Andrey Tumanov:

1. We pick up in the morning

The best time to pick apples is clear weather, in the morning. Harvest the apples from the tree, carefully maintaining the stems.

2. Look around you.

There should be no signs of worms, bruises, rot. Even an accidentally scratched apple can rot. Bend so that the branches of the legs do not pierce the side of the neighbor. It is better if the stems face up or slightly to the side.

3. Do not wipe or wash

The matte film on an apple is a protective mechanism against harmful external influences – natural wax, which protects them from spoilage.

4. The main thing is temperature.

The hardest part is finding the right storage location. The ideal storage temperature for all varieties of apples is + 3 … + 5 degrees, not higher. So the fruit will retain juiciness longer. And he also needs average humidity (in a too humid room apples will not stand for a long time either – they will rot).

5. Play more often.

Throw away rotten fruits, otherwise they will “infect” the neighbors.
