The dog’s owner, Atsuko Sato, wrote on her blog that Kabosu died on the morning of May 24 at the age of 18.5.
“She left peacefully as she fell asleep while I petted her. Thank you, who loved her for so long,” she wrote.
Kabosu’s farewell will take place on May 26 in the Japanese city of Narita.
Kabosu was born in 2005. As RIA Novosti reports, he turned to volunteers after the breeder in whose house he lived went bankrupt. Her owner took her from a stray dog shelter and started writing a blog dedicated to her pets.
In 2013, Kabosu became the heroine of the Doge internet meme after her photo became popular on the Internet. The Dogecoin cryptocurrency has chosen Kabosu as its symbol.
