The preliminary estimated value of the smuggled cargo exceeds 5 million rubles.
Employees of the Russian Federal Security Service published footage of the arrest of smugglers in the Krasnoznamensky district of the Kaliningrad region who were trying to illegally move strategically important resources across Russia’s state border.
They tried to move it in a rather original way: the criminals packed the amber in shopping bags and dragged it under the water, along the river bank, like barges.
– Two citizens of Russia were detained, from whom about 250 kg of raw amber of various fractions were found and confiscated. The preliminary estimated value of the smuggled cargo exceeds 5 million rubles, – commented the staff of the FSB of Russia.
The involved expert from the Kaliningrad amber plant stated that among the amber extracted by criminals there are quite valuable samples weighing more than one kilogram, which have particular value.
– Such large formations of amber weighing about 1320 grams, the employees of the plant extract only about 15 samples per year, – noted the expert.
The FSB of Russia noted that the detainees are under investigation, as a result of which a procedural decision will be made.
