Date: July 27, 2024 Time: 05:29:31

The new aid of wallet cards is now a reality for Spanish society. In order to improve the precarious situation of thousands of families, this aid seeks to allow them to buy good quality products considered basic. As of today, the state administration has begun the distribution that allows the Autonomous Communities to already have these cards to distribute them. With them you can buy some basic products in some supermarkets throughout Spain.

What is a wallet card?

The purse cards aim to help those families in vulnerable situations with children, to obtain food and basic necessities and various products, mainly food and those focused on hygiene.

The project is expected to affect some 70,000 families with children, to allow them to make monthly purchases of food and other essential products thanks to the European Social Fund Plus. This new system replaces the traditional direct delivery, and will be self-managed by the regional governments.

The Red Cross has initiated a collaboration with the Ministry of Social Rights to promote the application of the cards, through which different agreements have been reached with up to seven supermarket chains to exchange them through public bidding.

How much money does the wallet card have?

Each autonomy must identify, evaluate and organize all those people who may benefit from this system, to send them the cards. Thus, the value is decided based on the number of members, with an endowment of between 130 euros and 220 euros per month.

What can I buy?

Families who receive the cards will have the option to purchase fresh or children’s foods, along with hygiene products, presenting higher quality options than those included in traditional food distribution. Pablo Bustinduy’s department trusts that they will serve to complement and reinforce already existing resources, such as those of Social Services or Food Banks.

Where can it be exchanged?

The project can be used in chains such as Carrefour, Alcampo, Eroski-Caprabo, Spar Gran Canaria, Más y Más, Alimerka and Dinosol, as they are the stores that meet the requirements of the Royal Decree and the Basic Program. From January 1, 2025, the administrations will be the ones to manage this model.
