King Felipe VI has commissioned this Tuesday the leader of the PP and winner of the 23-J elections, Alberto Núñez Feijóo, the formation of a new Government in Spain for the next Legislature, which he arrives with the guarantee of having 172 seats (four of the absolute majority) after obtaining the support of Vox, UPN and Canary Coalition. The monarch has finished this Tuesday the round of consultations with the main leaders of the political parties with parliamentary representation and has communicated to the new president of Congress, Francina Armengol, his decision that Feijóo be the first to try to form an Executive, ahead of the person in charge of the PSOE and acting president of the Government, Pedro Sánchez.
During his meeting with the King, Feijóo had based his willingness to be the candidate for president on three main reasons: for having won the elections, having the support of three other formations that guarantee him to be very close to an absolute majority and, of course, or consequence of these two conditions, because he believes that it is “his duty” to present himself to launch a project that improves the equality of all Spaniards and cuts off the nationalist and pro-independence forces that want to undermine the unity of Spain.
The leader of the popular groups assures that in the event that the King decides that he will go to the investiture, his intention is to “maintain contacts with the groups from Monday” and settles that “a lone government of the PP could be the best guarantee for the stability”. His plan involves guaranteeing economic growth and employment as the first task, promoting autonomous Spain and guaranteeing respect for judicial decisions and order in all orders, ensured after his previous meeting with the King.
