This was stated by Russian Sports Minister Oleg Matytsin on Sunday after Russian presidential aide Igor Levitin said that Vladimir Putin ordered the Sports Ministry and the Republic of China to formulate proposals for Russian participation in the 2024 Games.
“We are waiting for the final decisions and recommendations of the IOC on the participation of our athletes. And we will make the appropriate decision together with the Russian Olympic Committee and the sports community,” TASS quotes Matytsin.
The head of the Ministry of Sports of the Russian Federation stressed that the key will be compliance with the Olympic Charter and respect for the interests of athletes and coaches of the Russian Federation. And the demands of some federations to sign any declaration are unacceptable.
In December 2023, the IOC decided to admit the Russians to the 2024 Olympic Games on a neutral basis in the individual events. Athletes and coaches associated with the armed forces, national security agencies or those supporting the conduct of a special military operation in Ukraine will not be allowed to participate in the Games.
