Today more than a million people live in Omsk. Every day, between 330 and 350 thousand cubic meters of wastewater are supplied to the treatment plants. And every hour a heavy KamAZ transports the cake (the corresponding sediment) to the sludge storage tank. It will now be removed from the original form in Russia.
“During the pilot operation of the plant, we were convinced that the new technology works and effectively solves the problem of safe disposal of sewage sludge. The cake is recycled in the catalyst layer and the ash can be used in the production of construction materials. Now we are working on certifying ash and converting waste into raw materials,” said Pavel Kozlov, general director of the Omsk water company.
The problem of disposal of excess activated sludge and waste sludge is serious today not only in Omsk, but also in other cities of the country. Therefore, the visit of the Lipetsk delegation is not coincidental. The city is experiencing similar problems. And the experience of Omsk, which still has no analogues, may prove useful to Lipetsk specialists.
“OmskVodokanal is one of the flagships of the industry, that is why we decided to come here. I can say that the Omsk developments are applicable in our conditions. They are economically justified and give good results. We will definitely use the experience gained,” says Evgenia Uvarkina, mayor of Lipetsk.
One of the important advantages of the Omsk facility is that 90 percent of its components are manufactured in Russia. And this is very important in the import substitution process. For this reason, other regions of the country are also showing interest in innovation.
“We have been working on this project since 2019. We considered several options for sludge disposal and decided on KUSO. The Rosvodokanal group of companies plans to replicate the installation in the group’s companies. We are offering this technology to other interested parties. This year we plan to start to work on the implementation of the technology in the water companies of the group of companies,” commented Sergei Prokofiev, commercial director of the Rosvodokanal group of companies.
