“He informed the federation in a letter addressed to Pedro Rocha. In addition, Rubiales resigns from the position of vice president of the Union of European Football Associations,” the statement reads.
Earlier, Rubiales himself said in an interview that he intended to leave his position after the kiss scandal involving soccer player Jennifer Hermoso during the gold medal ceremony after winning the World Cup.
This kiss caused a great scandal both in Spain and abroad. Rubiales, who has presided over the federation since 2018, was suspended from any football-related activity by decision of the International Football Federation.
