This document was supported by 13 members of the UN Security Council, including Russia and China. The United States opposed and Great Britain abstained. 97 UN member countries became co-authors of the project, RIA Novosti reports.
The draft resolution stated that the Security Council demands an immediate humanitarian ceasefire. The immediate and unconditional release of all hostages and the guarantee of humanitarian access were also demanded.
Furthermore, the document expressed deep concern about the catastrophic humanitarian situation in the Gaza Strip and the suffering of civilians.
Let us remember that in October Washington blocked Brazil’s draft resolution. The American side then explained its decision by the fact that this draft did not mention Israel’s right to self-defense.
