Time magazine has compiled a list of the 100 best movies of 100 years. It includes films released between the 1920s and 2010s. From each decade, film critic Stephanie Zacharek took ten films.
The newest film on the list is Quentin Tarantino’s Once Upon a Time in Hollywood, released in 2019. The oldest are Robert Wiene’s The Cabinet of Dr. Caligari and Oscar Michaud’s In Our Garden, both from 1920. Time shaped the list with “more than 50 years” of experience.
The main criterion for her was a personal attitude to paintings. For one reason or another, she “was touched to the core by them.” The list doesn’t include the highly anticipated Casablanca or Nicefellas, but there are plenty of comedies that critics and film festival juries rarely receive as warmly as dramas. The list includes Wong Kar-wai’s In the Mood for Love, David Lynch’s Mulholland Drive, Terence Blanchard’s 25th Hour, Jim Jarmusch’s Only Lovers Left Alive, Stefan Villa’s Phoenix and Greta Gerwig’s Little Women.
Previously, Kim Kardashian was featured on the cover of Time. The reason was the success of her Skims lingerie brand, which was included in the top 100 most influential companies in 2023 according to the publication.
