The Vietnamese authorities have banned the release of the new Greta Gerwig film, “Barbie”, with Margot Robbie and Ryan Gosling in the main roles. Considered one of the most anticipated films of the summer, it will be released on July 21. Variety writes about it.
The reason for the cancellation of the launch was the scene, which shows a map with a “nine-dotted line” – the water area that Vietnam considers its own entered there. And the map, explained in the Ministry of Culture of the country, is made according to the Chinese model.
Vi Kien Thanh, director general of the Vietnam Film Department at the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism, said on Monday that the decision to ban was made by the National Film Evaluation Board.
“We did not license the American Barbie film in Vietnam because it contains an offensive image of the ‘nine-dot line,'” the state-run Tuoi Tre newspaper said, also citing Wee Kien Thanh.
Similar depictions of the “nine-point line” have previously caused problems for various films and television series in Vietnam.
Earlier, Charli XCX released a new single “Speed Drive” – it will be included in the soundtrack of the upcoming movie “Barbie” with Margot Robbie and Ryan Gosling. We talk about it in more detail here.
