Wes Anderson’s new drama, The Wonderful Case of Henry Sugar, has been released. The film will debut on Netflix on September 27. Reported by Pitchfork.
Prior to its digital release, The Wonderful Story of Henry Sugar will screen at the Venice Film Festival on September 1. At the same venue, Anderson will receive an honorary award for “a particularly original contribution to the modern film industry.”
The wonderful story of Henry Sugar is a 37-minute adaptation of Roald Dahl’s short story collection of the same name. The play tells of a rich lover of casinos and gambling, whose hobbies change when a mysterious book falls into his hands. Benedict Cumberbatch played the lead role.
Anderson himself calls his new work not a feature film, but a TV show like Play of the Day, which aired on the BBC in the 1970s and showed adaptations of plays and novels. In addition to Cumberbatch, the short film stars Dev Patel, Ben Kingsley, and Richard Ayoade.
