metaplatforms inc. (recognized as extremist and banned in Russia) officially launched the Threads Wednesday app, considered the most serious threat to the Musk-owned social network. A few hours later, Zuckerberg posted on Twitter (blocked in the Russian Federation) a photo of Spider-Man fighting each other. Zuckerberg’s tweet was his first since 2012 and came days after Musk challenged him to a cage fight.
Zuckerberg’s new project is set to capitalize on the Twitter boss’s series of mistakes. Since Musk acquired the company in October for $44 billion, he’s laid off thousands of employees, relaxed content moderation policies and presented users and advertisers with a host of technical challenges.
In a recent controversial policy change, Twitter has limited the number of tweets users can see on a daily basis. Musk called this “temporary” measure to fight bots.
“There should be an app for public conversations with more than a billion people,” Zuckerberg said in a post on Wednesday. “Twitter had a chance to do this, but it failed. I hope so.”
