The Barbie movie is about to hit theaters, and even fans of the blonde doll, like Greta Gerwig’s movie buffs, can’t get excited. In the meantime, we consume sub-minute clips, interviews, and even watch old movies with the character to satisfy our cravings. Thinking of all these fans, we weren’t looking for fan art that could satisfy our curiosity, and we stumbled upon more than beautiful work: fan art that turned Barbie characters into 90s anime.
Looking at the work artist Hanawbara has done, we can’t help but praise her interpretation of the characters in Barbie: The Princess and the Commoner as she turned a blonde and a brunette into two characters that they could be part of in an anime like Sailor Moon.
So we can see that not only do these characters have designs typical of Japanese animation, the artist has also taken care of the colors using all planes, even in shading.
In the next image of a pair of fan art made by Khanavbara, we can see these Barbie variants again, although this time they offer a much more musical profile. Strikingly, in this second image, there are details such as mouths protruding from the facial area, or huge eyes, more typical of chibi. At this point, we can’t help but wonder what Ken would look like in this style.
And you, what do you think of this Barbie fan art?
