The first round of the WTA 250 tournament in Cleveland might have given Mirra Andreeva a dream come true right away. The sixteen-year-old Russian star could already find herself in the first round with the block of world tennis, the eldest of the Williams sisters. But Venus at the last moment decided to withdraw from the tournament. And in the first rival, Mirra got the German Tamara Korpach.

Mirra met Corpach in the Wimbledon qualifying final and, though not without difficulty, broke the German’s resistance. As a result, Andreeva was able to make a lot of noise on the English courts, not reaching the quarterfinals. Tamara also made it to the main draw in her favorite role of “lucky loser”, but she couldn’t surprise the British public by following the example of the Russian tennis player.
