The famous “moustache of hope” of Russian football, Stanislav Cherchesov, is currently out of work. A month has passed since Ferencváros’s resignation, and a lot of rumors appeared in the media about possible options for continuing the career of the Russian specialist. But Cherchesov did not decide on the club and continued to wait for interesting offers.
Dismissal of Ferencváros after a sensational defeat
It is unlikely that anyone could have imagined that Stanislav Salamovich would leave Ferencváros the way it happened. After all, under his leadership, the team won the Hungarian championship twice in a row, won the national cup, and performed well in European competition. In the 2021/2022 season, Ferencváros advanced from first place in the group to the Europa League playoffs. But there was no luck with the draw, since the German Bayern got into the 1/8 final. It was not possible to get past such a strong opponent, in both meetings the Hungarian team lost with a score of 0:2.
After such success, Ferencváros fans expected good results from the team in qualifying for the Champions League this season. Expectations were shattered by harsh reality. With an overwhelming game advantage, Cherchesov’s wards managed to lose already in the first qualifying round of the tournament against Klaksvik of the Faroese Championship. In addition, the first away game ended with a score of 0:0, and in the second home game Ferencvaros lost 0:3. It is not surprising that immediately after such a defeat, the club management decided to fire Cherchesov.

Where Cherchesov can continue his career
Stanislav Salamovich calmly accepted his dismissal from Ferencváros, saying that for now he plans to stay with his family and think about what to do next. But almost immediately rumors began to appear about the possible appointment of Cherchesov in a particular club. First, the football agent Safonov, in an interview with the RIA Novosti agency, suggested that the specialist could continue his career in Sochi. The club’s owner is Boris Rotenberg, with whom Cherchesov has experience working at Dynamo Moscow. But this information has not been confirmed.
Then the “mustache of hope” coincided with the club “Al-Hilal” from the championship of Saudi Arabia. Cherchesov himself did not deny these rumors, noting that he had received offers from various clubs, but did not want to make rash decisions. And he also did not go to work in Al-Hilal.

The other day there was information that Cherchesov was negotiating with Rubin and Akhmat to be appointed head coach. In an interview with Sport-Express, Stanislav Salamovich commented on this information:
“There were no contacts with representatives of the Kazan club, and there could not be while the head coach is working there. This is my basic principle: in such a situation, I will never talk about a possible contract. As for the information that I refused Akhmat, it is also not true. The general director of it, Akhmed Aidamirov, called me, he was interested in the plans, I told them briefly. We understood each other and we wish each other good luck.”

Many players, agents and soccer officials who have experience working with Cherchesov note his desire to manage a big European club. How this wish can coincide with reality is difficult to understand. Yes, Stanislav Salamovich led the Russian team to the quarterfinals of the World Cup, and also won the Polish championship with Legia and the Hungarian championship with Ferencváros. But the success of the Russian team occurred at the home world championship, and the victories with the clubs were with minimal competition and in weak championships.
Most likely, Cherchesov will have to lower the bar and we will see him as the head coach of one of the RPL teams. Or he will find an option abroad again, like Ferencváros. That is to say, a club with a modest championship, but with the opportunity to play in European competition.
