“I love pasta!” Nutritional secrets from 19-year-old US Open champion Cori Gauff

Date: September 8, 2024 Time: 05:36:43

Cori Gauff, the rising star of American tennis, who has already risen, was not the main candidate for victory at the US Open. The chances of former world number one Iga Swiatek and Aryna Sabalenka, who had just replaced the Polish player and became the new leader of the WTA ranking, were assessed as preferable. And Elena Rybakina should have competed for the title. But they all failed for various reasons, and the main trophy went to a 19-year-old American. That’s right. In the final, Gauff achieved a resounding victory over Sabalenka.

Sabalenka lost the US Open final. And 19-year-old Gauff became a first-time TBS champion.

Before the US Open, Corey gave an interesting interview to the popular women’s publication Women’s Health. In it, she talked about her food preferences. But in two weeks this conversation has not lost its relevance at all, on the contrary, it has become even more interesting: what is the breakfast of champions?

“I’m not a very good cook,” Gauff admitted. And this, frankly, is not very surprising. The top tennis player has such a busy schedule that she simply doesn’t have enough time to learn the art of cooking. But Corey doesn’t give up. Only this summer did he begin to master cooking not in the consumerist sense, but in the creative sense. And she likes: “In the future I would like to learn how to do this.”

So what does Gauff have for breakfast? In your case, the first meal involves a balance of proteins and carbohydrates. “Today I ate eggs, potatoes, sausages and fruit. “This is usually my breakfast.”

This combination is a proven method to provide long-lasting training benefits. The energy needed for exercise is provided by carbohydrates and protein is needed to ensure that the muscles receive the necessary amino acids. In this way the body recovers better and the person becomes stronger. Additionally, protein slows the rate at which the body absorbs carbohydrates and prevents blood sugar levels from rising and then falling.

Gauff also admitted that if she weren’t a top athlete, for whom her career comes first, she would eat… pancakes every day! Instead, she chooses fruits to satisfy her sweet tooth.

Lunch at Cory’s, he says, is “always different.” It all depends on whether he has a game that day or not. During tournaments, the tennis player actively relies on pasta. “I love pasta and think it’s a great way to nourish myself,” Gauff explains his choice. And during the period when there are no tournaments, the athlete prefers rice or beans as a side dish, as well as chicken and avocado, one of her favorite pastas. For dinner during tennis season, Corey almost always eats protein foods: salmon, chicken. And besides this – vegetables. Gauff doesn’t like red meat, but sometimes he eats steak.

At the same time, Corey is capable of cooking some things for herself, despite the aforementioned lack of cooking experience. And the fryer helps her with this. “In my opinion, this is the simplest thing in the world. And it is quite easy to clean,” says the tennis player. Gauff recently tried cooking her own Brussels sprouts and salmon in the air fryer. “And it really turned out well!” – she rejoices.

Well, where would we be without desserts? Gauff doesn’t indulge in sweets every day, but sometimes she indulges in ice cream or cake. “When I won the title in Cincinnati, I ate a hamburger. And after that, ice cream. I like ice cream a lot. But now probably what I like the most are cakes,” he admitted.

Water balance must also be maintained. Corey drinks a special drink that she says “prevents dehydration and restores fluids, electrolytes and zinc.” While he drank this drink regularly, the athlete never had problems with cramps or dehydration. But she drinks it during training and during matches, just water.

Of course, not only proper nutrition matters, but also a proper psychological attitude. “I really believe in the way I play. Normally before a tournament I am more nervous than others. But at the moment I feel very confident.

There are no special secrets or anything like what many might think. Just a change of mentality, a real self-confidence. Being able to look at the game and life in general with different eyes made playing on the court much easier and clearer for me,” Gauff concluded.
