Rostov beat Rubin in the 1st round of the Russian Cup.
Valery Karpin’s Rostov has a successful start to the season: two matches, two wins. Today, the sensational team of the last Russian championship beat Rubin in the Cup.
Rostov is still unable to declare the newcomers – Ionov, Akbashev, Mohebi, Chernov, Stolbov and Vakhania – due to FIFA’s ban on player registration.
Just before the start of the cup match with Rubin, Karpin spoke powerfully on the air of Match TV on this topic, shooting arrows of criticism towards the Russian Football Union:

Karpin changed almost the entire team compared to the 1st round match of the RPL with Fakel. He left only goalkeeper Pesyakov at the base, and even Osipenko and Tugarev. As there were not enough players due to the transfer ban, the coach was forced to throw the youngsters into battle. The flanks were closed by 19-year-old Kuznetsov (right) and Maksetsov (left), and 18-year-old Semenchuk appeared in the center of the defense. He became one of the three central defenders, as Karpin decided to play more reliably and relied on a 3-4-2-1 tactical formation. However, when playing the ball from the goal, one of the three could rise higher, first Prokhin.
Rubin coach Rashid Rakhimov changed the goalkeeper (Yanovich took Dupin’s place) and half of the outfield players of the main match with Lokomotiv. In this sense, Karpin’s colleague is simpler. Kazan pressed from the first minutes, despite the fact that they had just returned to the elite and played on the road, almost scored an early goal: Rakhmonaliyev executed very decently a shot from under Osipenko – it hit the crossbar. A lighthearted start to the meeting promised goals, but the game quickly turned into a continuous struggle. There was a lot of fouling, rushing and fuss on the field.
Before the break, Rubin scored four shots, and Karpin’s team didn’t have a single shot at all. Kazan managed to score at the end of half an hour, but Fameye’s goal was disallowed due to the fact that the striker himself was offside in the first phase of the attack. The young people of Rostov, even if they are not shy, are still not ready for big things at this level. In addition, it seemed that Pesyakov, introducing the ball into play, was experiencing some problems with his leg.
During the break, Karpin replaced Osipenko and Toshevsky, released Melekhin and Golenkov. Even these decisions were, of course, caused not by the course of the game, but by the fact that the coach takes into account the 2nd round meeting of the RPL with Zenit. Meanwhile, the young Semenchuk played. At the end of an hour of the match, the defender played well in two consecutive episodes. He interrupted the pass with a tackle for a possible one-on-one exit, and after that began a scoring attack with a magnificent forward pass. Tugarev also developed a great attack, and Komarov surprisingly easily beat Rubin defender Gritsaenko and opened the scoring.
Rostov scored with the first shot and hit the goal of Yanovich’s goal, and after that defended the minimum advantage, dried up the game. In the remaining time nY the field was not very interesting, the teams were prevented from creating scoring chances, marriage and lack of chemistry in these combinations. One of the most incendiary episodes of the second half was associated with the combat of Melekhin and the newcomer forward of Rubin Daku. Kosovar took off his opponent’s shorts and then quickly removed them, apparently so the referee wouldn’t punish him for an atypical foul.
Karpin continues to do amazing things. He finds and develops youngsters, like Semenchuk himself, who he liked in the match with Rubin. Lead the team in the cup game with the original jersey with the image of a tattooed Einstein. He criticizes the RFU, despite working on the Russian national team. But the main thing is that he wins despite the circumstances. Trailing 1:11 on shooting, Rostov took three points.
In the 2nd round of the group stage, Karpin’s team will play away with Ural (August 8), and Rubin will host Lokomotiv on the same day.
