Date: July 27, 2024 Time: 10:00:35

Today, September 15, Lithuanian President Gitanas Nauseda signed a decree according to which figure skater Margarita Drobiazko is deprived of Lithuanian citizenship.

“The president signed the corresponding decree on Friday,” the BNS agency quotes a statement by presidential advisor Rydas Jasyulionis.

Previously, information appeared that, according to the president of the Seimas of Lithuania, Victoria Cmilyte-Nielsen, the process of depriving Margarita of citizenship has almost begun. The reason for the decision was the athlete’s performance in Russia as part of Tatyana Navka’s program. For this reason she lost her Latvian state awards.

Drobyazko is originally from Moscow. The 51-year-old figure skater obtained Lithuanian citizenship in 1993. In 2000, for her services to Lithuania, Drobiazko, together with her partner Povilas Vanagas, were awarded the Knight’s Cross of the Order of Gediminas.
