The second qualifying round of the Champions League has come to an end. After the results of the matches held on Tuesday and Wednesday, 12 teams were determined, which took a step towards the group stage and will play the third round. The only Russian goes further. His team eliminated the Ukrainians
The only representative of Russia in the second qualifying round of the Champions League was the Panathinaikos goalkeeper Yuri Lodygin. True, the former player of Zenit and our team did not enter the field in meetings with Dnipro-1. Lodygin is the replacement for Italian Alberto Brignoli (last season Yuri played only six matches in all tournaments), so he watched football from the bench.

But defenders Herdur Magnusson (ex-CSKA player) and Tin Edvay (ex-Lokomotiv), as well as midfielder Tonny de Vilhena (ex-Krasnodar) played for Panathinaikos against the Ukrainians. After the away victory with a score of 3:1, the Greeks unexpectedly created problems for themselves in Athens: they were trailing 1:2 in the middle of the second half. A very nice goal was scored by striker Artyom Dovbik, who made a pass at the gates of Brignoli, beating three opponents in the penalty area. However, Slovenian striker Andraz Sporar’s brace propelled Lodygin and co. into the next round.

“Aris” without Kokorin rushes into the Champions League group
Last season, Alexander Kokorin became the best player in the Cypriot championship and helped Aris win the first league title in the history of this club. In the summer of 2023, our striker returns to Fiorentina, and Aris, who still can’t agree on the redemption of the Russian, is forced to break into the Champions League group stage without their main star. So far so good. Aleksey Shpilevsky’s team together with BATE gave two enchanting games with a total of 16 (!) goals.
The Cypriot champion actually decided the outcome of the match in the first game, winning at home with a score of 6:2. In the second match, conditionally at home for BATE in Hungary, Aris already won with a score of 5:3. Shpilevsky’s team effectively used free space for counterattacks, caught the opponent on errors after pressing. Interestingly, BATE goalkeeper Andrei Kudravets, who conceded 11 goals, is close to signing for Dynamo Moscow for €500,000.

Faroese champion KI Klaksvik is the main sensation of the Champions League qualifier. In the first round, the Norwegian Magne Hoseth’s team beat Ferencvaros (0:0 at home and 3:0 away), causing Stanislav Cherchesov to resign, and in the second, they knocked out Hacken.
The Swedes, like the Hungarians, managed a goalless draw in the Faroe Islands. And in the second leg in Gothenburg, the teams staged a real shootout! KI Klaksvik scored first again, then conceded two goals, but still equalized and moved the game to extra time. There “Hacken” took the lead in the 105+1 minute, but after another four minutes, the fans saw another move made by the Faroese giant. An own goal by Swedish goalkeeper Peter Abrahamsson turned the game into a penalty shootout.
Klaksvik was twice lucky with errors from Abrahamsson, who conceded easy goals after set pieces. And in the penalty shootout he was worse than his colleague and compatriot Jonathan Johansson. The guests missed one from the “point”, and the hosts two, and they flew.
Miraculous rescue of “Servette” with Ondua
Gael Ondua, a Cameroonian with a Russian passport, returned this summer from Hannover to Servette (he went from the Swiss to the German club) and in the first games of the new season he starred in a dazzling clash with Genk. “Servette” performed a small miracle, beating the Belgians with ten men.
The first game in Geneva ended in a 1-1 draw. Ondua came on as a substitute, playing around 15 minutes. The second leg in Genk started badly for Servette, as the visitors lost striker Enzo Crivelli in the third minute, who received a direct red card. And at the end of the half hour the locals scored from the penalty spot. However, the Swiss managed to win back this goal in a minority. In the second half, they conceded again and scored again – that’s willpower! The game went to extra time, in minute 106 Ondua appeared on the field. With the help of Gael, Servette reached a penalty shootout, and there he converted all his shots, unlike Genk, whose players missed twice. Perhaps we will see Ondua playing in boots with the Russian flag in the group stage of the Champions League.

Son scored three goals for his father’s team
In the match between Copenhagen and Breidablik a singular incident occurred. 18-year-old Icelandic Danish striker Orry Oscarsson scored three goals against a team led by … his father Oscar Thorvaldsson. The 49-year-old specialist obviously had mixed feelings after playing in the Danish capital.
The result of the duel between Copenhagen and Breidablik, in general, was not in doubt after the first meeting, the Icelanders lost at home 0:2. In Denmark, they briefly gained hope by opening the scoring in the ninth minute, but then the goals came at their gates like a cornucopia (it ended 6:3). In the first two Oscarsson did not participate, and in the third he gave an assist to former Spartak striker Jordan Larsson. The Swede scored by playing on the stack with Orry and converting a one-on-one outing.
After that, Oscarsson scored a hat-trick in 11 minutes. He scored with both his right foot and his left, brilliantly resolving opening episodes behind the backs of defenders and individual actions. By the way, before that, Orry had only 1 goal in 11 matches for Copenhagen.
