In July 2021, Conor McGregor came out to close the trilogy with Dustin Poirier and hoping to get revenge on the American for his defeat six months earlier. As a result, Conor didn’t even make it to the second round and broke his leg. So he hardly imagined that he would not enter the octagon in the next three years.
McGregor’s recovery has been difficult. Dana White stated that Notorious suffered a very dangerous injury, after which it is difficult for him to return to the previous level. Conor himself simultaneously acted in films and attended various events, including boxing evenings. And invariably McGregor responded that the greatest comeback in martial arts history would soon occur.

On New Year’s Day, Conor announced that he would return to International Fight Week in June and fight Michael Chandler, his opponent from the final season of The Ultimate Fighter. During the wait, Chandler managed to become a walking meme and an MMA analogue of the famous dog Hachiko, as he faithfully waited for the announcement of the fight with Conor and did not fit into other fights.
The wait is over, in a press conference after UFC 300, Dana White officially announced that Chandler’s fight with McGregor will headline UFC 303, which will take place the night of June 30. According to the head of the promotion, Conor had too many commitments outside of the UFC that prevented him from preparing for the fight, and it was because of this announcement that he had to wait so long.

Interestingly, before UFC 300, White directly stated that no announcement about McGregor should be expected. But in the end he surprised and pleased the fans. One more warning: the fight will take place in the welterweight category. Everyone who watched Conor over the last few years roughly understood that it wouldn’t be easy for this guy to fit back into the lightweight division, let alone the featherweight division. By the way, in the New Year’s announcement, Notorious talked about the middleweight category.
One way or another, MMA fans around the world received the long-awaited news. Of course, Conor’s form raises questions, as does how “clean” he is from a doping standpoint, as everyone remembers the USADA exit story. However, McGregor is one of the most tested athletes this year, so this aspect is also kept in check.
Just the other day, Conor gave a very daring prediction for his return and he was going to have four fights a year: “I was hardly surprised in my career. I got knocked out once, but then I injured my leg. Look, I’ve put more people to sleep than I’ve put under anesthesia during a surgical procedure. I have a complete feeling of my own freshness. Maybe if I get a good result in my first fight in the last few years, then I’ll have four fights in a year and then four more next year. There will probably be more injuries, more wins and losses in this situation, who knows? But right now I don’t doubt my own abilities one bit. “I’m fresh and I want to get back into this game.”

The return to football is closer than ever. This will happen in two and a half months and everyone will be waiting for McGregor, this is a historic event for the world of martial arts.
