We have repeatedly observed such scenarios in the cinema, even the legendary film “Rocky” with Sylvester Stallone begins with such a description of the protagonist. But the British Jake Pollard went even further. He decided to lose all of his fights in the ring. However, in the anniversary battle, for some reason, he defeated an inexperienced opponent.
The entire career of Jake Pollard, a native of the British town of Wilkshire, fits into one special concept – a mismatch. The term “mismatch” means a sporting event where there is no intrigue and the winner of the duel is known in advance. Bookies interpret mismatches as follows: one boxer is a clear favourite, and the second is an obvious underdog. This is where the difference in rates comes in.
Pollard is not that old by boxing standards: he was born in 1991 and appeared in the professional ring at the beginning of 2018. From this moment on, the countdown to his singular series of defeats begins. In a little over five years, Jake managed to fight 50 fights, most of which were with debutants or those just beginning their boxing journey. Pollard spent all of his fights in the UK, his opponents were from the same place. A kind of homemade “bag”, but with the prospect of eventually entering the Guinness Book of Records as a man who has not won a single fight in his life.

But something went wrong this weekend. Everything was routine. Jake Pollard’s opponent was another win-hungry newcomer to MMA boxing named Louis Smithson. The boy wanted to start the easiest ascent of him. Pollard is the best option for the role of a pear, which will open the way for a young man to Olympus. However, even before the exciting action began, Jake, who had entrenched himself in last place in the rankings of the British organization BoxRec, was promoted quite unreasonably. BoxRec decided, for no apparent reason, to raise the “bag” by 400 positions at once. As a result, the “record holder” settled in a rather comfortable 804 place.

The bookies were embarrassed. Jake probably knew something about financial aid before the fight, and in their fiftieth anniversary fight, he decided to hold out and even win. Confident of inevitable success, Smithson almost burst into tears in the ring, because the “honor” of losing to the worst boxer in history instantly ends his initially unstarted career. And the wily Pollard will now climb even higher in the boxing promotion rankings and, given the corruption component of world boxing, as well as his dismal record, may target a third-rate title holder.
